Homeward Bound: Build the Shelter that Cambria County Animals Deserve

Homeward Bound: Build the shelter that Cambria County animals deserve.

The Challenge We Face

For nearly 50 years, the Humane Society of Cambria County (HSCC) has helped animals and families. Since 1976, HSCC has facilitated more than 138,000 adoptions and delivered medical, shelter, and outreach services to thousands. The shelter, built more than 40 years ago, no longer fits current needs. Every hallway and office holds kennels. Animals rotate between indoor and outdoor areas due to limited space. Staff and volunteers work in cramped conditions. The community’s care has outpaced the shelter’s walls.

Our Vision

Humane Society of Cambria County’s Homeward Bound campaign will build a new, modern facility on a 12-acre site that:

  • Doubles the capacity for animals.
  • Adds medical suites for on-site treatment.
  • Creates spaces for adoption and education for families, students, and volunteers.
  • Establishes a hub where community service and animal care meet.

This facility will not warehouse animals. It will prepare them for homes, restore health, and create a visible sign of the community’s commitment.

Animals Need Help

These animals deserve a modern facility where their journeys home can begin with dignity.

Chippy

Chippy is an 8½-year-old large dog with a playful spirit and an unmistakable look—especially when he’s surprised or excited. His striking blue eyes make him unforgettable.

He adores walks, treats, and attention, yet he spent more than 226 days waiting for a family to call his own.

Chippy’s long stay is a clear reminder of the strain extended shelter time places on both animals and staff—and why your support matters.

Valerie & Vienna

Valerie, a young cat just under two years old, arrived at the shelter pregnant and in need of immediate support. Only a week later, she gave birth to her kitten, Vienna, safely under our care.

Gentle and people-focused, Valerie enjoys attention and affection, happily accepting brief cuddles before wandering off to explore. She appears comfortable around other cats and will be dog-tested soon to ensure the best possible match.

Valerie and Vienna’s story highlights HSCC’s vital role as both an emergency shelter and a nursery—providing safety, stability, and compassionate care when animals need it most.

Diamond

Diamond is a gentle, affectionate dog of about six years old who delights in human connection and never hesitates to offer a few well-placed kisses. Her calm, loving nature makes her wonderfully suited for a future family.

Her story is a reminder that even the sweetest, most adoptable animals deserve conditions that allow them to truly thrive while they wait for a home of their own.
