Nancy has been volunteering at the Humane Society of Cambria County since November of 2021. Nancy had been visiting our shelter with the thought of adopting a cat. Our staff noticed how often she frequented the shelter, and discussed our volunteer program with her. The rest is history! She has a love for all animals, but cats hold a special place in her heart. It’s difficult to see and imagine the lives of the strays out there that do not have homes, and over the years Nancy has worked to try and help them.

Through her work here at our shelter, Nancy gets to know our cats and spends time with them on a regular basis; the time outside of their kennel is very important for their livelihood, and the additional socialization that Nancy provides makes them more adoptable!

Nancy is retired, and in addition to volunteering in her free time, she goes to the YMCA to walk and attend exercise classes. Just as she helps out our cats in need, she helps others as well. Nancy cares for her 91-year old mother. And, she shares her home with three cats, two of which were adopted from the Humane Society, Lily and Chloe.

Nancy wants others to know how rewarding volunteering at the Humane Society is. She believes that anything our volunteers can do to help us is a win-win situation; everyone benefits from the help our volunteers give. Working with the cats and seeing their personalities evolve is another greatly satisfying aspect of volunteering. Nancy says that when you find out that the animals were adopted into their furever homes, it is the most rewarding feeling. Thank you for everything you do for our shelter, we are so appreciative of your giving spirit!
