Adoption Process

The Humane Society of Cambria County (HSCC) does not put a time limit on its adoption process as each adoption is different. The HSCC schedules adoptions between the hours of 12:00pm and 4:30pm Tuesday through Sunday with extended hours through 6:30pm on Friday. If you rent, you will need to bring written landlord’s permission to ensure the pet is allowed on the property. All other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations and licensing, we will contact your veterinarian if documentation is not provided. We strongly recommend multiple meet and greets with your potential companion prior to adoption.

In order to minimize the amount of time our pets spend at our shelter, we do not reserve or otherwise hold any animals.

Spay/Neuter Law

Any pet that we adopt out must be spayed/neutered. Kittens and puppies are too young to have the surgery completed before adoption. And, while we do our best to spay/neuter our animals before adoption, we cannot complete all surgeries due to our large volume of animals and restricted resources. Only animals with a written veterinarian excuse due to health or age will be pardoned. At the time of adoption you are expected to pay a spay/neuter deposit of $20 for kittens and cats and $50 for puppies and dogs. The deposit refund will be processed once we receive confirmation that the procedure has been completed within the allotted time.

The Next Steps

Here are the steps to bringing home a new companion from the Humane Society of Cambria County:

  1. Find a companion
  2. Ask to meet with your potential new companion in one of our visitation rooms or outdoor play areas.
  3. Complete an adoption application
  4. Submit the application to one of our Adoption Counselors
  5. Note: If you have a child or already have a pet in your household, you will be asked to bring them to meet your potential new companion prior to adoption.
  6. If a connection is made, an Adoption Counselor will contact you to schedule your adoption pick up.

Please consider that no one can guarantee the ideal companion for you and your family and that any adopted pet will need training, patience, and lots of love in order to assimilate into their new home. Before you adopt a pet, please make sure you and your family understand the commitment of owning a pet.
